Trivani Funded School Latrines
Increase Student Attendance

mexico

The Trivani Foundation™ has been funding the construction of several latrines for a school in Mgalani, Kenya, and the project is now nearing completion! These latrines have already proven beneficial to other schools and have been a primary reason for a significant increase in female student attendance. Oreu, Trivani’s country manager in Kenya, has provided the following details on the progress of the latrines and their benefit to the school:

Hi Megan,

The project we had initiated at Mgalani has been completed. I have attached some pictures. The girls’ latrine is complete, and we expect the school to start using it next week. The doors to the boys’ latrine are being put in place, and they too should start using them by next week. The pit latrines have been inspected by the public health officer from the ministry of health, and they have been confirmed up to standards and can be used.

The school has 478 students and had eight latrines. Now, with the assistance from Trivani, they have eight additional latrines. The recommended ratio is 1 latrine to serve 25 girls or 30 boys a day. They are still short 4 latrines, but with our help, they are a lot closer to the required minimum than they were before.

We were greatly encouraged by the cooperation of the community and especially the school management in moving this project to a successful conclusion. The handover will be next week, after our organization’s name is painted as the sponsor on the two latrines.

Regards,

Oreu
